Recession Quick Tip...Solidify Your Sales Process

Your sales prospects need to see or hear from you at least 7 – 10 times before they’ll consider contacting you, more even now, due to the tough economic state. Wouldn’t it be nice if you were guaranteed a sale 100% of the time? This is an attainable goal if, and only if you pull together a great sales process.

Brainstorm and adopt a multi-step process that evolves from initial contact to the sale. The first and most important step is your approach. Without a solid approach of what, who, how, and why you are selling, you can forget about that happy sales ending. After the initial contact you’ll want to determine their needs, demonstrate the features/benefits, handle hard-hitting questions, and finally – know when and how to close the sale.

Hint: even though they can’t see you, customers on the other end of the line can sense your demeanor. If it helps, stand up when you are on the phone, walk around, and an important tip; smile. Selling your service of product with a smile – even on the phone will only benefit your sales goals.

Money Saving Tax Tips

With the business tax season now behind you, breathe a sigh of relief and implement simple steps to ensure you’re in great shape next year:

• Become your own accountant. With limited funds, guerrilla marketers must get creative. There are inexpensive computer programs that will allow you to keep track of your income and expenses on a weekly or monthly basis, making the end of the year tax time a synch.

• Get a business bank account. A common mistake is to mix personal and business finances. Business transactions will be better accounted for and easier to control if they are listed separately.

• Keep receipts. To claim tax credits and deductions you must have proof of expenditures and also written records of travel and entertainment costs.

• Plan ahead for tax payments. Business owners must pay taxes on their earnings. Set aside a separate percent of income solely for estimated federal and state tax payments that need to be made monthly or quarterly.

Earth Day More than a Cash Gimmick

Earth Day was on April 22, to celebrate Earth's life and beauty and to alert earthlings to the need for preserving and renewing the threatened ecological balances upon which all life on Earth depends. To most companies, this meant cashing in on ‘must have’ eco-friendly products to be sold to commemorate the day. But for others, this meant participating in an earth event to help them get their name out. (Which, in our opinion, was more eco-friendly than the products of stuff sold that we don’t need!)

It’s great that so many companies put on their green camouflage one day a year and give back to the earth, but to succeed as a ‘green’ contender, this must be done 365 days a year. More cities should take a look at San Francisco’s 2 year ban on hard-to-recycle plastic bags in major grocery and retail stores. This ban has saved 5 million plastic bags a month from littering streets and choking marine life. The city has even added curbside compost pickup to its array of earth-saving goodness.

We love that the city of San Francisco has taken a serious approach to earning their green stripes. You can launch your own business-boosting eco-friendly campaign in any economy. Get started now at http://www.boostyourbottomline.com/fast_track/

Recession Quick Tip...Keep Pricing Consistent

In a down economy, the real issue with sales is that the customer doesn't see the value in what you might be selling and good salespeople know that pricing is rarely the issue — even if the customer claims it is. Instead of lowering your prices, focus your time and energy on "sweetening your deal." Consider offering a freebie, partnering with a company to offer more and lower ad costs, and most of all make sure the benefits of your product or service are fully understood.

The biggest mistake you can make is to drastically reduce your prices during a recession. Sure, it may seem like a good idea at the time, but if you aren’t ready to live with that new brand position far beyond the recession than forgo that plan of attack.

Jay Conrad Levinson, father of Guerrilla Marketing, says marketing in a challenged economy requires knowing where to focus time and energy. "The amazing thing about marketing during tough times is that high prices help," Levinson said. "Lower prices don't help because people with high prices get to say, 'During a rough economy the last thing you want to do is make mistakes with any money that you put out, and you can be assured by our price that you're not going to make a mistake such as you would be if you went with a lower priced product or service.'"

Recession Quick Tip...Focus on Relationships

Keeping your customers in uncertain times is key, but the process of turning those clients into loyalists should start way before the economy takes a turn. You’ll want to adopt the mindset that a sale isn’t just a transaction; it’s a relationship. Offer the best service before, during and after the sale. Notice we didn’t say “sell,” but service by offering free valuable information that keeps you top-of-mind.

Ensure they will come back to you by providing them with the best quality service that will have them shouting your praises. You can bet that your satisfied customers will be back and will also spread the news of your good service via word of mouth.

After the sale– remember to “service” your clients. This could mean sending them a post card thanking them for their loyalty with a discount on their next purchase, or on a more personal level – give them a call! They will be pleasantly surprised by your efforts to guarantee their satisfaction.

Lastly, draft….Hint: you’re reading a free article right now! But it can lead you to the best tool for following up with your clients effortlessly on a regular basis: Automate Your Marketing.
